Billboard has posted a new about HSM2 and look what it says:"The "High School Musical" kids were expecting big things for the just-premiered "High School Musical 2." The Friday night premiere of the Disney Channel made-for-television movie High School Musical 2 has set numerous ratings records and delivered the largest single audience in basic-cable television history, according to preliminary ratings reports provided by Disney.
In early overnight estimates, the debut of High School Musical 2, a sequel to the wildly popular 2006 children's television movie about a diverse group of teenagers who learn to channel their inner theater geeks, was watched by 17.2 million viewers nationwide.
If these estimates hold up, it would make High School Musical 2 the most watched event ever broadcast on basic cable, surpassing the debut of "Monday Night Football" on ESPN, which attracted 16 million viewers on Sept. 23, 2006.
It would also mean that High School Musical 2 is the most watched movie to be shown on basic cable, toppling the previous record holder, the TNT western "Crossfire Trail," which was seen by 15.5 million viewers when it aired on January 21, 2001.

What this will mean for the Disney Channel, the history of musical theater, the state of cable television or the future of the world as we know it remains to be seen. But "High School Musical 2" is zippier, bouncier, prettier, more soulful and even more musical than its predecessor, and that's saying something...

Hey Everyone! Here is an article about Zac Efron! Though it may not be by design, the plot of Disney Channel's "High School Musical 2" carries with it some echoes of reality. In the movie, which could carry the subtitle "The Last Temptation of Troy," basketball player/theater star Troy Bolton gets tempted by a college scholarship, new shoes and privileges not given to his Wildcat co-workers and friends, who begin to turn on him.In reality, Efron is the "High School Musical" star with the most career juice (he's in the movie musical "Hairspray" and has been announced as the star of a "Footloose" movie musical), putting him in a situation similar to Troy. It wouldn't be surprising if he faced resentment from his co-stars, although there was certainly none in evidence at a "HSM" press conference last month.Efron comes off as incredibly grounded for a 19-year-old. Despite his rising star status away from the "HSM" machine, Efron professes a loyalty to the franchise and doesn't rule out a third movie."All I can say is, from day one 'High School Musical' has been a blast to film, and that's really why I'm here," Efron said last month after the press conference. "All the success of 'High School Musical' was a one in a million chance. If I have the opportunity to work with this cast again and wake up every morning with no stress and film a movie that's fun to be a part of, to sing and dance my way through a job, I'd love to do it.""I definitely am loyal to 'High School Musical,' " he said, "but there are so many projects I want to be a part of and so many genres I want to try."

"High School Musical" zipped to the top of the class last year because it followed the lesson plan established decades ago by Andy Hardy. Give 'em catchy songs, high-energy dance numbers and a cotton-candy love story. You'll fill up the barn in no time. The sequel, which debuts Friday and will probably repeat 76,220 times before the end of the month, doesn't stray far from that formula. The only major difference is the setting.
Instead of the East High School campus, the gang is at a summer resort, where scheming Sharpay (Ashley Tisdale) hopes to finally win over Troy (Zac Efron) by teasing him with her family riches. Will Troy get over his ego trip and run back into the arms of Gabriella? Will the good guys win the resort's talent show? Will everyone bond at the end?Um, does Mickey Mouse have big ears?The only real suspense for "HSM" fans is whether the music is as strong this time around. The answer: not really. Still, there's nothing here that's ear-shatteringly awful and a number called "Fabulous" is far superior to Fergie's similarly-themed pop hit, "Glamorous."Part of the reason the song works is that it's performed by Tisdale. She's not a particularly strong singer or dancer, but she's a spitball actress who has the film's juiciest role - and takes full advantage of it.
